Cities with the Most Demand for Tech Jobs

Cities throughout the US are vying for the tech spotlight. We’ve seen increasing competition for talent from tech hot spots such as the New York’s Silicon Alley, Dallas’s Silicon Prairie, Northwest’s Silicon Forest, in addition to San Francisco’s and San Jose’s Silicon Valley. How do the cities with the most demand for tech jobs match up? Below we listed the locations that had the most job ads for information technology positions during August 2013.


Cities with the Most Demand for IT Jobs


1. New York, NY – 58,000 Job Ads

National demand is about level with what it was at this time last year. In August, there were more than 809,400 job ads available online. While New York had the highest demand for IT candidates, Seattle (WA) had the largest increase in tech job ads since August 2012, rising 11%. In these cities combined, Software Developers (Applications) was the most sought after IT occupation. Demand for this profession is up 7% since this time last year. Most of the positions listed above appear among the most commonly advertised occupations in each city, with the exception of Information Technology Project Managers. This occupation only appeared in San Francisco and Seattle. Computer User Support Specialists replaced that occupation in the other cities.
