4 Practices for the Modern Recruiter’s Daily Routine

Greater access to applicant data coupled with slick technology to engage candidates should give today’s recruiter a significant edge. Nevertheless, HR professionals have been slow to adopt the latest tools and practices, Melissa Hooven writes on Cornerstone OnDemand.

“So many recruiters, talent acquisition professionals, and search agencies are approaching their sourcing and hiring process with outdated technology that only slows them down,” Hooven, Cornerstone OnDemand’s senior director of talent acquisition says. “Inflexible recruiting technology has become the new roadblock in a competitive job market, as well as a thorn in IT’s side.”

It’s time for recruiters to get up to speed and approach hiring with a modern mindset. Hooven shares the following tips for modern recruiters to include in their daily practices.

1. Embrace you social and employer brand. “The messaging on your career page should be reflected in your job descriptions, social media pages, and the approaches your recruiters take,” Hooven says.

2. Build a culture of enthusiasts. Internally market your recruiting function by conveying the importance of employee referrals.

3. Learn from your peers. Follow some of the many HR tech gurus who write about best (and worst) recruiting practices.

4. Connect with key leaders/execs in your organization. By getting to know the expectations of the executive team, you’ll avoid bottlenecks in the hiring process.
